Langtang Valley and Holy Gosainkunda Trekking, an adventure of great combination that includes both scenic sides of beautiful Langtang Himal, where walks leads to high ridges and over green hills with ever present views of Langtang-Ganesh with Jugal Himal range and as far towards Manaslu and Annapurna peaks due west. Langtang Valley and Holy Gosainkunda Trekking, an adventure of two week duration which leads you to marvelous country overlooking views of peaks on daily walks, exploring rural farm villages of Tamang people interwoven with Buddhism religion and old culture similar to Tibetan which is just across the border flank by Ganesh and Langtang Himal.

 

Langtang Valley and Holy Gosainkunda Trekking, an enjoyable exciting walks where first part of the journey takes you at beautiful and scenic Langtang valley at Kyanjin enclosed by high peaks, with time here our adventure continues heading towards high areas at holy Gosainkunda. Gosainkunda a large glacial pond regarded as holy, once a year great religious event takes place in the month of August, where hundreds of Hindu pilgrims visits here for prayer to worship Lord Shiva with a holy dip in the icy pond, believe is that it washes the sin of a hundreds lifetime.

 

Langtang Valley and Holy Gosainkunda Trekking, starting with a drive to trekking point at Syabrubesi village located within Rasuwa district of Langtang Himal region and then walking into farm villages and lovely woodland to reach at scenic Langtang valley in Kyanjin. From Kyanjin walk continues heading into lovely cool forested areas covered with tall rhododendron trees to reach at Sing Gompa, a nice spot with an old monastery, and then heading further high to holy Gosainkund.

 

After a pleasant and wonderful time at holy spot of Gosainkunda walk leads to high adventure crossing over Gosainkunda-la pass also called as east Laurabinaya-la at above (4609m / 15,100ft) high. The highest spot of the adventure, and then continue journey walking towards near Helambu area at Kutumsang village. Finally walk leads closer towards Kathmandu valley at Chisapani high hills facing fantastic panorama of Himalayan peaks with stunning sunrise views, and then downhill to Sundarijal reaching North East of Kathmandu valley rim, where a short drive brings you back into busy city life of Kathmandu after an overwhelming adventure and marvelous time in Langtang Valley and Holy Gosainkunda Trekkin

    Welcome to the Himalayan country of Nepal. It’s a panoramic thrill flying into Kathmandu on a clear day. The views of snow-capped mountain peaks sprawling down below you are almost ecstatic, beginning a whole chain of memorable experiences that stay with you for a long, long time. And as your plane hits the tarmac, our waiting support team will meet and greet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel.

  • Day 02: Full day in Kathmandu with half day guided tour and trek preparation

    Today after breakfast we start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu which are also listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. We visit the historic Durbar Square, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhunath) the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath’ and Buddhist shrine (Bouddhanath), which is also one of the largest stupas in the world. At noon, there will be a pre-trip discussion as well as provides opportunity to ask any questions you may have regarding our upcoming adventure.

  • Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi (1470m / 4822ft) via Dhunche 7 hours road journey

    We leave Kathmandu in the morning for Syabrubesi, a village which is also a starting point for treks into the Langtang valley. Our journey will be on a winding road through frequent switchbacks. On a clear day we get to enjoy outstanding views of Manaslu, Annapurna and Ganesh Himal. We continue until we descend to the small village of Syabrubesi, the starting point of our trek.

  • Day 04: Trek to Lama Hotel (2350m / 7709ft) 6 hours

    After breakfast, we begin our trek to Syabrubesi along the Langtang Khola. We ascend and descend simultaneously through oak and rhododendron forests. After crossing a bridge over the Langtang Khola (small river), we ascend on a steep trail which will lead us to the Lama Hotel.

  • Day 05: Trek to Langtang village (3307m / 10,849ft) 5/6 hours

    We continue ascending from Lama Hotel and enjoy the mountain landscape with abundant waterfalls. As we reach the green meadows of Ghoda Tabela, we begin to see the white peaks of the Langtang range. Our trail continues to climb up the widening valley, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders. We pass a Buddhist monastery before reaching the Langtang village which was affected by the April 2015 earthquake. We continue on our trail to Mundu.

  • Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin (3749m / 12,299ft) 4 hours

    After breakfast, we will start our journey to Kyangjin Gompa, a principal monastery of the region. We pass by water mills, prayer wheels, chortens, with sacred mounds of rocks with inscriptions carved on them.  We also pass by the largest mani wall in Nepal, made from stone with prayers written on them. After the short trek, we spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the Buddhist shrine in Kyangjin Gompa and surrounding areas with the amazing views of the mountains.

  • Day 07:Rest day at Kyanjin for high acclimatization (optional side trip around)

    We spend the whole day exploring Tserko Ri which will also help us acclimatize to the high altitude. We begin early in the morning. The trail passes through yak pastures before ascending to Tserko Ri. The sunrise view from the top of Tserko Ri is extraordinary. We get back to Kyangjin Gompa by late afternoon and explore the beautiful monastery while enjoying views of the Himalayas, glaciers, birds and yaks.

  • Day 08:Trek to Lama Hotel (2350m / 7709ft) 6 hours

    We begin our trek after breakfast and retrace our steps to Lama Hotel. Most of the trekking today will be downhill as we pass through forests and beautiful Tamang villages. We also get to enjoy different view of the Himalayas that we had missed climbing up.

  • Day 09: Trek to Lama Hotel (2350m / 7709ft) 6 hours

    We begin our trek with a climb up to the Rimche Village. From here we descend to the banks of the Langtang Khola. We continue on an easy trail to Bamboo and begin ascending to Landslide Lodge. From here we continue our trek to Thulo Syabru. There are two trails as we cross another bridge. We follow the one that passes by Pahare hotel and a waterfall at (2210m) to reach Thulo Syabru.

  • Day 10: Trek to Sing Gompa/Chandanbari (3254m / 10,675ft) 5/6 hours

    Today will be a short walk but it is important to not reach Gosaikunda today because the steady gain in altitude will help us acclimatize better to the high altitude. After trekking for a while we pass by a chorten and a checkpoint. From the checkpoint, we move south and pass by Garta Village and Phulung Monastery before reaching Shin Gompa to spend the night.

  • Day 11: Trek to Gosainkunda (4381m / 14,375ft) 5 hours

    Today we get to enjoy fantastic panoramic views of the Himalayas including the Annapurnas, Hiunchuli, Manaslu, Ganesh and Langtang. We follow a ridge for the most part of the day and catch a glimpse of the first of the holy lakes. The third lake, Gosaikunda (4380m), is of particular religious and cultural significance for the Nepalese and is one of Nepal’s most sought after pilgrimage sites. The lake is surrounded by mountains on almost all sides and has a great ensemble of nine other lakes to accompany it. Every year during Janai Purnima in August, hundreds of Hindu pilgrims visit the lake for a holy bath. The large rock at the center of the lake is said to be the remains of a Shiva shrine.

  • Day 12: Trek to Ghopte Odar (3566m / 11,699ft) via Gosainkunda-La (4609m / 15,100ft) 8 hours

    We move around the lake’s shore before ascending towards the Laurebina Pass (4610m). The Helambu region begins at the Lauribina La (pass) and descends to the Melamchi valley. The trail is rough and crosses moraines, but is well marked with cairns. We pass through three more small lakes before reaching the pass. We climb a small hill and enjoy excellent views of the area. Our trail passes through Surya kunda before reaching Ghopte.

  • Day 13: Trek to Kutumsang (2445m / 8021ft) 6 hours

    Today our trekking trial ascent up to Tharepati. Then trail descends through fir and rhododendron forest observing the beautiful mountain views of Mt. Dorje Lakpa range on its way to Kutumsang (2445m).

  • Day 14: Trek to Chisapani (2195m / 7201ft) via Gul Bhanjyang (2125m / 6971ft) 7 hours

    The trail descends to the delightful hill village of Gul Bhanjyang. Again trail ascent until Thodang Betini and we continue trek down to Pati Bhanjyang (1860m) and exploring a Brahman and Chhetri village. Then the trail proceeds to Chisopani.

  • Day 15:Trek to Sundarijal (1380m / 4527ft) and drive to Kathmandu 3 hours walk and 1 hour road journey

    Today our trek ends .So after the breakfast we will forward through the forest of oak and rhododendron to reach Borlang Bhanjyang (2440m). Later, we trek down to Mulkharka (1800m) from where we can see spectacular view of Kathmandu valley. Then descend to Sundarijal. And we drive back to Kathmandu by private transportation.

  • Day 16: Time of your own at Kathmandu for relaxing, shopping, sightseeing and farewell dinner

    This will be a spare day in Kathmandu after the tiring trekking program. We can stroll around the streets in Thamel, a popular Tourist hub in Kathmandu for some souvenir shopping. You may also visit popular tourist attractions nearby. Either way, there will be a farewell dinner to celebrate the successful completion of our journey.

  • Day 17: Transfer to airport for onward destination

    It’s your last day in Nepal! Grab some breakfast, and then take in some last-minute shopping in Kathmandu. We’ll make sure you arrive at Kathmandu International Airport with plenty time before your flight home. At this time, we’ll say our goodbyes and bid you farewell, armed with warm memories and gorgeous photos to show your loved ones.

Equipment List

Correct Clothing & Equipment are essential for a safe and enjoyable trek. Experienced trekkers will often take only a selection of these items based on what has worked in the past. Please find the equipment list below for your personal use during your travel.


Footwear:
Running Shoes:
 1 pair for casual Comfortable support shoes wear on lighter walking days. Sandals or flip flops for camp.


Light Hiking Boots:
 1 pair of sturdy hiking boots in which you should wear a light synthetic sock under a warm heavy sock comfortably, either wool or synthetic. Sole should be flexible but still provide enough support for your feet. Boots should be very water repellent.


Hiking Gaiters (Optional):
 1 pair keeps rocks out of shoes and boots dry in case of precipitation. Optional if trekking pants are worn.


Wool Socks:
 3 pair heavyweight wool socks to be worn over the liner socks. When layering socks, check fit over feet and inside boots. Remember to keep one fresh, dry pair of socks available at all times. Socks with padded shins are especially nice with boots.


Liner Socks:
 3 pair of smooth thin wool, nylon or Capilene to be worn next to the skin. This reduces the incidence of blisters and hot-spots and makes the outer sock last longer before needing to be changed. They should fit well with your heavyweight socks.


Clothing: 

Lightweight Long Underwear: 2 pair, tops and bottoms, Capilene, other synthetic or wool. No Cotton. Lightweight is preferable as it is more versatile (worn single in warmer conditions and double layer for colder). Zip-T-neck tops allow more ventilation options. One set of white for intense sunny days and one pair of dark for faster drying gives the most versatility.


Light Trekking Pants:
 Lightweight nylon pants designed to be used while trekking. They are extremely air permeable, dry quickly and provide sun protection. Zip-off lower leg sections are convenient for switching to shorts.


T-Shirts:
 Lightweight crew style T-shirt that wicks away moisture. Shirt can be made of any synthetic material.

Woolen or thick cotton long arm shirt – can double as a light jacket when required and also protects arms and neck because of the collar…good to wear in the evenings.

Thin woolen jumper / sweater can be reassuring and comfortable at nights in the lodges.


Bandana:
 Bring bandanas for face masks and other tasks.


Synthetic/Soft Shell Jacket:
 A full-zip version is easier to put on and has better ventilation than a pullover.


Insulted Down-Jacket:
 Down jacket need for this depends on the season and where you are going.


Hard Shell Jacket With Hood:
 We recommend a waterproof breathable shell material with full front zipper, underarm zips, and no insulation. This outer layer protects against wind and rain.


Hard Shall Pants:
 Waterproof, breathable. Any side zipper length is fine as long as you can get them over your boots.


Handwear:

Fleece/Soft Shell Gloves: 1 pair. A heavier fleece will do a better job of keeping hands warmer when wet than lighter polypropylene or Capilene.


Shell Gloves With Insulation:
 1 pair. Insulation does not need to be removable. A good quality ski glove is sufficient.


Headwear:

Headlamp With Spare Batteries: A good quality climber’s headlamp. For use at night, bring extra batteries and bulbs!


Sun Hat:
 The sun can be intense at high altitude. A hat with a good visor provides protection for the nose and eyes. Baseball hats work well. A Buff is recommended to reduce the amount of dust inhaled while trekking and reduces the chance of infection.


Neck Gaiter Or Buff:
 Buff is preferred for covering the face and preventing sickness.


Glacier Glasses:
 100% UV, IR, high quality optical lenses designed for mountain use, must have side covers, leashes, and a nose guard is particularly helpful. No more than 8% light transmission. If you wear contact lenses we recommend packing a spare pair of glasses—it is a good idea to have these with “photo-gray” or equivalent light-sensitive material so they can double as emergency sunglasses. If you wear glasses we recommend prescription glacier glasses (gray or amber). Talk to your eye care professional to find out where prescription glacier glasses are available. Regular sunglasses are not dark enough and do not provide any side protection from the sun.


Personal Equipment:

Sleeping Bag: Sleeping bag and liner – a 3 or 4 season bag is recommended, depending on your trek.

Backpack: A day pack big enough to carry water bottles, camera, lunch and extra clothing. 3,000cu.in. max

Adjustable 3 Section Trekking/Hiking Poles: Optional

Water Treatment Tablets: Iodine or Chloride Dioxide tablets. A small bottle or multi pack is sufficient. Taste neutralizer tablets remove iodine taste. Chloride Dioxide formulas will not discolor water.


Water Bottles:
 2 Wide mouth bottles with minimum 1 Liter capacity per bottle. No water bag or bladder systems, they freeze or are hard to fill.

Sunscreen: SPF 30 or better, 2 small tubes. Make sure that the sun screen is not older than 6 months. Sunscreen older than six months loses half of its SPF rating.

Hand/Foot Warmers (Optional): Recommended if you easily get cold hands and feet 1-3 pairs.

Lip Screen: SPF 30 or better, at least 2 sticks. Not older than 6 months.


Traveling:
Large Duffle Bag With Travel Locks & Tags:
 1 for transporting and storing gear. These bags are needed to transport your clothing. (Suitcases are not suitable).

Plastic Bags (5): For lining stuff sacks and pack to keep gear dry. Trash compactor bags work best.

Dry bags / waterproof rucksack covers to protect your belongings from rain and dust.

Travel Clothes: You will need street/casual clothing for air travel days and time spent in Kathmandu.

  • Dollars, pounds or Euros in cash for purchasing Nepalese visa at Kathmandu airport, for paying for restaurants & hotels, for gratuities, snacks & to purchase your own drinks & gifts.
  • Credit cards, Bank/ATM/Cash machine cards for withdrawing funds from cash machines (bring a photocopy of your cards), traveler’s checks, etc.
  • Durable wallet / pouch for travel documents, money & passport.


FIRST AID:

Personal First Aid Kit (small and simple): Aspirin, Moleskin, Adhesive tape, Band-Aids.


Note:
 These days most of these items can be purchased in Kathmandu. There are now several leading brand stores selling their own equipment and there are many stores selling cheap imitations and some well established local stores selling under their own labels. Please ask us if you’d like some advice about where to go to get any gear. If you need to do any shopping for gear, please let us know with enough time to do this before leaving for trek!


What to take with you in your day pack:

Please carry the following in your day pack, as a minimum:

  • 2 liters of water (please make sure your water bottles will take boiling/hot water)
  • sunscreen, sun glasses, sun hat, lip balm, dust mask / scarf / ‘buff’ to help on dusty trails
  • warm fleece or thermal layer & gloves
  • water proof layer
  • head torch
  • hand cleaner
  • your camera
  • any money you want for snacks/drinks along the trail
  • Critical– take any personal medications you require during the day – you will not see your kit bag until evening.

 

 

The rest you can put into your kit bag which will be carried by the porters, whom you won’t see until camp in the evening. It’s a great idea to use dry bags (ie airtight/waterproof) in your kit bag to store your dry clothes in to keep them DRY in case it rains and one to put your dirty laundry in (to keep from making everything else in your bag smell bad!). These dry bags are readily available in Kathmandu.

 

 

What about gear I want to leave in Kathmandu?
Before departure for your trek you might pack your ‘town clothes’ and anything you don’t want on trek with you and ask your hotel (if you come back to the same hotel) or your guide to store it for you. If you want to do this, then consider bringing or buying a simple bag here for this purpose.
