A little about trip:

Yala Peak Climb a lesser mountain at above (5732m / 18,806ft high located within Nepal Central Himalaya around Langtang Himal enclosed with array of peaks on both side of beautiful Langtang valley. Yala Peak Climb, a fascinating adventure, truly an amazing experience within less than two week time frame where all types of interested travelers from beginners to expert mountaineers can join in this wonderful feat.

 

Yala Peak although a lesser mountains hidden between massive Langtang Ri and Langtang Lirung high mountains above (7000m), where climb leads to scenic views of least technical challenge to reach its summit top. For Yala Peak Climb, climbers should be well equipped as the mountain filled with much ice and snow all the way to its top, where our expert guides will fully assist you for safe and memorable climb.

 

Walk leads from Syabrubesi around Tamang villages of interesting Buddhist culture and traditional farm life, where walk leads to higher hills and river gorge covered in dense forest of rhododendron-oaks-magnolia-pines and fir trees with some bamboo thickets which make excellent habitation for rare and elusive Red Panda often seen on walks. Soon leaving the tree lines into wide exposed areas at Kyanjin above (3749m) within beautiful Langtang valley, and then heading towards our main adventure for the climb on top Yala Peak, located beyond Kyanjin.

 

On top of Yala Peak enjoy fantastic views as far to Ganesh Himal (7405m) with Langtang Lirung (7234m),  Ghengu Liru (Langtang II  (6571m), Kimshun (6745m) and Shalbachum (6918m), Chimsedang, Naya-Kanga or Ganja Chuli (5846m), Gangchempo, Tilman’s beautiful Fluted Peak, Jugal Himal and ending towards east horizon with Dorje Lakpa (6980m). After a mesmerizing moment feeling in high spirit return journey on the same route allowing you observe more of this beautiful country and then back at Kathmandu after a wonderful overland journey, and ending this awesome and fantastic adventure on Yala Peak Climb.

    Welcome to the Himalayan country of Nepal. It’s a panoramic thrill flying into Kathmandu on a clear day. The views of snow-capped mountain peaks sprawling down below you are almost ecstatic, beginning a whole chain of memorable experiences that stay with you for a long, long time. And as your plane hits the tarmac, our waiting support team will meet and greet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel.

  • Day 02: Full day in Kathmandu with half day guided tour and trip preparation

    Today after breakfast we start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu which are also listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. We visit the historic Durbar Square, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhunath) the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath’ and Buddhist shrine (Bouddhanath), which is also one of the largest stupas in the world. At noon, there will be a pre-trip discussion as well as provides opportunity to ask any questions you may have regarding our upcoming adventure.

  • Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi (1470m / 4822ft) via Dhunche 7 hours road journey

    We leave Kathmandu in the morning for Syabrubesi, a village which is also the starting point for treks into the Langtang valley. Our journey will be on a winding road through frequent switchbacks. On a clear day we get to enjoy outstanding views of Manaslu, Annapurna and Ganesh Himal. Our trek for today ends with a descent into the small village of Syabrubesi.

  • Day 04:Trek to Lama Hotel (2350m / 7709ft) 6 hours

    After breakfast, we begin our trek to Syabrubesi along the Langtang Khola. We ascend and descend simultaneously through oak and rhododendron forests. After crossing a bridge over the Langtang Khola (small river), we ascend on a steep trail which will lead us to the Lama Hotel.

  • Day 05: Trek to Langtang village (3307m / 10,849ft) 5/6 hours

    We continue ascending from Lama Hotel and enjoy the mountain landscape with abundant waterfalls. As we reach the green meadows of Ghoda Tabela, we begin to see the white peaks of the Langtang range. Our trail continues to climb up the widening valley, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders. We pass a Buddhist monastery before reaching the Langtang village which was affected by the April 2015 earthquake.

  • Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3749m / 12,299ft) 4 hours

    After breakfast, we will start our journey to Kyangjin Gompa, a principal monastery of the region. We pass by water mills, prayer wheels, chortens, with sacred mounds of rocks with inscriptions carved on them.  We also pass by the largest mani wall in Nepal, made from stone with prayers written on them. After the short trek, we spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the Buddhist shrine in Kyangjin Gompa and surrounding areas with the amazing views of the mountains.

  • Day 07:Rest day at Kyanjin Gompa for high acclimatization

    Today is a day to rest and explore the area. You can visit the monastery and cheese factory then take a walk up the moraine to see the spectacular ice faces and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung or ascend Kyangjin Ri (4350m) which is the highest point of this trek, directly behind the village, for a breath-taking panorama of the Langtang peaks.

  • Day 08: Trek to Yala Peak Base Camp (4400m / 14,435ft) 6 hours

    To reach Yala Base Camp, you trek along the rocky glacier trail. You will be quite taken back by the views of Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tserko Ri, Yala peak and others. For today the accommodation will be in a tented camp and the food will be cooked by our professional camp cook.

  • Day 09: Climb to Yala peak Summit (5732m / 18,80ft) and back to Kyanjin Gompa 6 hours

    Today is our main adventure day. An early start in the morning takes us to climb Yela peak depending on weather conditions. At the summit of Yala peak, you will be stunned by the panoramic views of Shishapangma, Dorje Lakpa, Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tserko Ri, Langtang Lirung and many Tibetan mountains.

  • Day 10: Spare day in case of bad weather to climb Yala Peak

    This is the spare day for the climb just in case of the bad weather. Or we can have the rest day at the Kyanjin Gompa or optional side trip around the Langtang Glacier etc.

  • Day 11:Trek to Lama Hotel (2350m / 7709ft) 6 hours

    We begin our trek after breakfast and retrace our steps to Lama Hotel. Most of the trekking today will be downhill as we pass through forests and beautiful Tamang villages. We also get to enjoy different view of the Himalayas that we had missed climbing up.

  • Day 12: Trek back to Syabrubesi (1470m / 4822ft) 5 hours

    We basically retrace our steps back to Syabrubesi. The trek will be easier as it will mostly involve descending.

  • Day 13: Drive to Kathmandu (1300m / 4265ft) 7 hours road journey

    Today, after breakfast we drive back to Kathmandu with the splendid views of hills, mountains, terraces and villages. Remaining time you rest and evening explore Thamel.

  • Day 14: Time of your own at Kathmandu for relaxing, shopping, sightseeing and farewell dinner

    Today is your last day in Kathmandu and is an opportunity to do all the bits and pieces you thought of doing over the past few weeks including any last minute shopping, returning to places that you enjoyed or didn’t get a chance to visit before your trek. Either way, there will be a farewell dinner to celebrate the successful completion of our journey. Please do let us know if would like help organising anything for today.

  • Day 15: Transfer to airport for onward destination

    After a great breakfast at your hotel, you are free until it is time for us to transfer you to the airport in time for your fight home. We bid farewell for now and until next time!

Equipment List

Correct Clothing & Equipment are essential for a safe and enjoyable trek. Experienced trekkers will often take only a selection of these items based on what has worked in the past. Please find the equipment list below for your personal use during your travel.


Climbing Gear List:

  • Alpine Climbing Harness: Alpine Climbing Harness should be light and simple in design, easy to put on and take off with gloves on, with positively foolproof locking features.
  • Crampons: Crampons must fit boots perfectly; steel crampons with anti-balling and ability to toe point positively and safely into ice.
  • Ice axe: Ice axe should be versatile light general purpose ice climbing axe not too aggressive.
  • Ascender: Ascender or Jamar, a mechanical device used for ascending on a rope; must be suitable to be used with gloves or mittens.
  • Multi-LED Head Lamp: Multi-LED Head Lamp and spare batteries are essential items, we do not recommend single bulb lights due to its low reliability and a single point of failure.
  • Karabiners: Minimum 2 locking carabineers, 1 large and 1 small and 4 regular.
  • Rappel device: Figure 8, ACT or similar; be familiar with Munter Hitch as it may safe your life if you loose your Rappel device and you will at some stage
  • Ski poles: Very handy for the approach; adjustable types are the best and are recommended type
  • Slings: One 3m (10ft) and three 2m (6ft).
  • Masks, hoses, and regulators: Good quality for your safety.
  • Altimeter :
  • Climbing helmet: Climbing helmet is essential safety gear for crossing areas under rocks and ice cliffs; light weight is an essential feature


Footwear:
Running Shoes: 1 pair for casual Comfortable support shoes wear on lighter walking days. Sandals or flip flops for camp.


Light Hiking Boots:
 1 pair of sturdy hiking boots in which you should wear a light synthetic sock under a warm heavy sock comfortably, either wool or synthetic. Sole should be flexible but still provide enough support for your feet. Boots should be very water repellent.


Hiking Gaiters:
 1 pair keeps rocks out of shoes and boots dry in case of precipitation. Optional if trekking pants are worn.


Wool Socks:
 3 pair heavyweight wool socks to be worn over the liner socks. When layering socks, check fit over feet and inside boots. Remember to keep one fresh, dry pair of socks available at all times. Socks with padded shins are especially nice with boots.


Liner Socks:
 3 pair of smooth thin wool, nylon or Capilene to be worn next to the skin. This reduces the incidence of blisters and hot-spots and makes the outer sock last longer before needing to be changed. They should fit well with your heavyweight socks.


Clothing: 

Lightweight Long Underwear: 2 pair, tops and bottoms, Capilene, other synthetic or wool. No Cotton. Lightweight is preferable as it is more versatile (worn single in warmer conditions and double layer for colder). Zip-T-neck tops allow more ventilation options. One set of white for intense sunny days and one pair of dark for faster drying gives the most versatility.


Light Trekking Pants:
 Lightweight nylon pants designed to be used while trekking. They are extremely air permeable, dry quickly and provide sun protection. Zip-off lower leg sections are convenient for switching to shorts.


T-Shirts:
 Lightweight crew style T-shirt that wicks away moisture. Shirt can be made of any synthetic material.

Woolen or thick cotton long arm shirt – can double as a light jacket when required and also protects arms and neck because of the collar…good to wear in the evenings.

Thin woolen jumper / sweater can be reassuring and comfortable at nights in the lodges.


Bandana:
 Bring bandanas for face masks and other tasks.


Synthetic/Soft Shell Jacket:
 A full-zip version is easier to put on and has better ventilation than a pullover.


Insulted Down-Jacket:
 Down jacket need for this depends on the season and where you are going.


Hard Shell Jacket With Hood:
 We recommend a waterproof breathable shell material with full front zipper, underarm zips, and no insulation. This outer layer protects against wind and rain.


Hard Shall Pants:
 Waterproof, breathable. Any side zipper length is fine as long as you can get them over your boots.


Handwear:

Fleece/Soft Shell Gloves: 1 pair. A heavier fleece will do a better job of keeping hands warmer when wet than lighter polypropylene or Capilene.


Shell Gloves With Insulation:
 1 pair. Insulation does not need to be removable. A good quality ski glove is sufficient.


Headwear:

Headlamp With Spare Batteries: A good quality climber’s headlamp. For use at night, bring extra batteries and bulbs!


Sun Hat:
 The sun can be intense at high altitude. A hat with a good visor provides protection for the nose and eyes. Baseball hats work well. A Buff is recommended to reduce the amount of dust inhaled while trekking and reduces the chance of infection.


Neck Gaiter Or Buff:
 Buff is preferred for covering the face and preventing sickness.


Glacier Glasses:
 100% UV, IR, high quality optical lenses designed for mountain use, must have side covers, leashes, and a nose guard is particularly helpful. No more than 8% light transmission. If you wear contact lenses we recommend packing a spare pair of glasses—it is a good idea to have these with “photo-gray” or equivalent light-sensitive material so they can double as emergency sunglasses. If you wear glasses we recommend prescription glacier glasses (gray or amber). Talk to your eye care professional to find out where prescription glacier glasses are available. Regular sunglasses are not dark enough and do not provide any side protection from the sun.


Personal Equipment:

Sleeping Bag: Sleeping bag and liner – a 3 or 4 season bag is recommended, depending on your trek.


Backpack:
 A day pack big enough to carry water bottles, camera, lunch and extra clothing. 3,000cu.in. max


Adjustable 3 Section Trekking/Hiking Poles:
 Optional


Water Treatment Tablets:
 Iodine or Chloride Dioxide tablets. A small bottle or multi pack is sufficient. Taste neutralizer tablets remove iodine taste. Chloride Dioxide formulas will not discolor water.


Water Bottles:
 2 Wide mouth bottles with minimum 1 Liter capacity per bottle. No water bag or bladder systems, they freeze or are hard to fill.


Sunscreen:
 SPF 30 or better, 2 small tubes. Make sure that the sun screen is not older than 6 months. Sunscreen older than six months loses half of its SPF rating.


Hand/Foot Warmers (Optional):
 Recommended if you easily get cold hands and feet 1-3 pairs.

 

Lip Screen: SPF 30 or better, at least 2 sticks. Not older than 6 months.


Traveling:
Large Duffle Bag With Travel Locks & Tags: 1 for transporting and storing gear. These bags are needed to transport your clothing. (Suitcases are not suitable).


Plastic Bags (5):
 For lining stuff sacks and pack to keep gear dry. Trash compactor bags work best.

Dry bags / waterproof rucksack covers to protect your belongings from rain and dust.


Travel Clothes:
 You will need street/casual clothing for air travel days and time spent in Kathmandu.

  • Separate photocopies of passport, visa form (easily obtained at Kathmandu airport), proof of insurance.
  • Airline ticket (Please make a copy & leave on at our office in KTM just in case if you need to change the date of your).
  • Dollars, pounds or Euros in cash for purchasing Nepalese visa at Kathmandu airport, for paying for restaurants & hotels, for gratuities, snacks & to purchase your own drinks & gifts.
  • Credit cards, Bank/ATM/Cash machine cards for withdrawing funds from cash machines (bring a photocopy of your cards), traveler’s checks, etc.
  • Durable wallet / pouch for travel documents, money & passport.


FIRST AID:

Personal First Aid Kit (small and simple): Aspirin, Moleskin, Adhesive tape, Band-Aids.


Note:
 These days most of these items can be purchased in Kathmandu. There are now several leading brand stores selling their own equipment and there are many stores selling cheap imitations and some well established local stores selling under their own labels. Please ask us if you’d like some advice about where to go to get any gear. If you need to do any shopping for gear, please let us know with enough time to do this before leaving for trek!


What to take with you in your day pack:

Please carry the following in your day pack, as a minimum:

  • 2 liters of water (please make sure your water bottles will take boiling/hot water)
  • sunscreen, sun glasses, sun hat, lip balm, dust mask / scarf / ‘buff’ to help on dusty trails
  • warm fleece or thermal layer & gloves
  • water proof layer
  • head torch
  • hand cleaner
  • your camera
  • any money you want for snacks/drinks along the trail
  • Critical– take any personal medications you require during the day – you will not see your kit bag until evening.

The rest you can put into your kit bag which will be carried by the porters, whom you won’t see until camp in the evening. It’s a great idea to use dry bags (ie airtight/waterproof) in your kit bag to store your dry clothes in to keep them DRY in case it rains and one to put your dirty laundry in (to keep from making everything else in your bag smell bad!). These dry bags are readily available in Kathmandu.


What about gear I want to leave in Kathmandu?
Before departure for your trek you might pack your ‘town clothes’ and anything you don’t want on trek with you and ask your hotel (if you come back to the same hotel) or your guide to store it for you. If you want to do this, then consider bringing or buying a simple bag here for this purpose.
